Since everyone’s so pro-America this week (well, they do have a damn good reason), It’s a repost of Cormega’s classic “American Beauty” today. Released back in 2001 on his damn near perfect “The Realness”, just about the time the USA “fell the fuck off”, this is a self produced, simplistic, masterpiece coming from the realest himself, Cormega.
I’ll be throwing up some ish all week in honour of our man Mega, for no good reason other than I listened to this album twice yesterday and thought, hey, why the fuck not…because there’s no parts of the country that are Pro-Cormega and Anti-Cormega, we’re all Promega, and, I believe, that if we can work together, with a Commonmega, we can…..Wait, where was i going with this?

A little-known Primo joint today folks, to keep the masses fed while I, as always, deal with the real life shit that keeps me from slinging instrumental crack. (Big shouts to RMR Records keeping my rent paid this month)
From a while back, this is a DJ Premiere joint from early in Ali Vegas’ career. Being a DJ Premiere instrumental, you know what’s up already: Crispy drums with a nice, low key Piano bouncing off of a two-tone bass hit.
Sometimes you just gotta keep it simple. More to come.

Reality Check
Produced by Trackazoids
An oldie but a goodie from Binary Star, the original crew of Michigan rapper One Be Lo (Aka OneManArmy). After you get past the moody mobb-deep style intro, the beat switches into a really smooth spring-time throwback jam with that boom-bap ish and some vocal samples.. In the vein of those early Hi-Tek / Rawkus joints you know me and Mrs. Huxtable love, this one rolls out nice and easy. Production handled by Trackazoids, which seems to be One Be Lo and some other cats. They handled all the beats in house for the MOTU shit, so I don’t know much more than that kids.
I’m easing back into the site like a warm bath, don’t rush me!

The Message
Produced by Grandmaster Flash
80’s week continues with a classic, essential, untestable… wait, if you’re on this site, and don’t either A.) Have this or B.) Know the whole story, then I gotta ask…what the fuck are you doing here?
I mean, really…
Non-music related political shit: Hey America, your country is fucked. . I thought this fit with the 80’s theme…you know…1984?

Terminator
Produced by Dave Storrs
Back on the 80’s tip today. I know I said I week of 80’s joints last week (Fresh, I hear you) , but you know how shit do*.
Back to it: This has got to be one of the oldest instrumentals I can stomach. It’s so Miami Vice that I can smell the denim and cocaine and bubble letters just hearing it, but in reality it’s a West Coast classic. Out in 1985 on Electrobeat Records and produced by Dave Storrs, this is one of the earliest appearances of Kid Frost, Aka Frost, Aka the Hispanic Panic, west coast O.G. who’s still dropping records (as of 2005).
Dave “The Alien Wizard” Storrs was a west coast electro producer who crafted joints that are still getting played to this day (a recent Fabric Mix CD featured two of his his joints, Killer and Body Rock, from the mid 80’s). Wanna talk old-school status? He had joints on Breakdance: The Motion Picture. Now that’s old-school.
*I had other concerns (mainly the fact we rocked a show sunday with T.O. legends Mathmatik & Motion that was dope as all hell).

Awwwwww yeah boyeeeee!!! Takin’ shit all the way back with 7, count em, 7 days of beats from those golden years of 1980 to 1989. Gettin things started with a dope selection of classics, and the inspiration behind this post, a fly J-Armz tape I just got (I know it’s been out sine last summer, but seriously, these beats are older than some girls I know, no joke)
