Another dope beat from Maryland’s own Kev Brown , the man behind the Brown Album, sometime Pete Rock / Grap Luva colaborator and no stranger to the page. He’s been quiet for the last year or so, but this should put his name back on the lips of internet nerds everywhere.
Before he goes full tilt this year with beats on Busta Rhymes new “Blessed” album (check the “Packing Them Things” joint for proof), Kev Brown produced this disc for Visionaries own LMNO.
When a track has “Produced by: Kev Brown” on the linerm you know what to expect: Head Nodding drums, jazzy samples and a classic, bittersweet vibe… and “Raise” does not disappoint.
As the summer winds down, you know what to do with this.

No explanation necessary. I’ve had the Guilty Simpson Ode to the Ghetto LP for a minute, but just copped the 12″.
This is another Indian-flavoured rubberfunk joint from the only Michael Jackson still doing good work (expect for Trevor on Trailer Park Boys, word) , Oh No, aka the Oh Knuckle, aka Madlib’s lil’ bro.
Just get this already. Hot bananas.

Extended Review + Response from Dutchmassive (!)
I got this preview of the new Dutchmassive (the Tampa cat who dropped Project Reach in 06 and Junk Planet, also know for work with Majik Most and Celph Titled) an instrumental joint called “The Drumlove EP”. A nice, if a little lo-fi, mix of some very old-school jazzy beats.
Update: After getting a chance to really get into this a few more times, I have to say it’s left me wanting more on Dutch’s forthcoming new disc. It reminded me of classic A Tribe Called Quest and Diamond D, but it’s clear dude’s channeling Dilla on a few beats, and even some Steve Spacek. There’s no track numbers on this one so pinning it down to specifics ain’t easy, but what stands out is the maturity of the production; Dutchmassive doesn’t need to bang out heaters in the club to bring the heat, the heat you hear is like August, 3:00AM downtown, with blunt smoke heavy in the air.
I am fiending to hear it in Hi-Fi without the speak and spell hosts, so everyone watch out for this one.
After a summer of paper-thin casio joints it’s nice to hear someone holding it down for the 8 bar loops and record pops. It’s a 25 or so minute mix, so put it on, light one up and do your dishes or some shit.
Note: I wanted to add this to the post so more cats could read it…dude comes CORRECT.
I Usually stay away from Poping in around Reviews or Interviews , things of that nature….
But The way you worded and reviewed my EP was Perfect.
I created and Released this Project and are pushing it with massive force due to all the Casio, synth, tho Dope…..All this electronic hiphop is starting to become overkill and its hard to tell who is making what beats….
I keep it Jazzy, Dirty, with Dust and pops…… Thanks for Appreciating it…..and defiantly was made to play during dishwashing hahahahaa
peace and
Enjoy the rest
