Double your DUB-L.

Aesop Rock - Troubled Waters (Instrumental) (Produced by DUB-L) - Download
Viktor Vaughn - Ode to Road Rage - Produced by DUB-L - Download
This is a classic, and oldie but a goodie. Off Aesop Rock’s first (?) underground release “Music for Earthworms”…indie even before he dropped Float on Mush and moved onto his now classic “Labour Days”. Produced by DUB-L, an NYC underground veteran from time, this flute and percussion rides the classic break so well, that even if it doesn’t do much, it really sets a gorgeous mood for a skilled MC to bless. “Troubled Waters” will rattle around in your head for days, trust me, and it seems fitting for this time of year and this time in my life. More on that later.
In fact, Music for Earthworms is one of those “Man, that mo’fuckers first album was his best, now he fell off, blah blah blah” type joints. Read what Dub-L actually has to say about it:
Now, you produced “Music For Earthworms”, the legendary Aesop Rock debut record: tell us why that record will never be re-released.
Who knows, Aesop really wanted to but I said no. I released a limited edition Instrumental version last year that has also been a real hit with the fans. The real classic songs on that album can also be found on The Controls “One Hundred” album where they first appeared.I thought that the engineer or someone ran away with the masters?
No, that would have been funny though. Since I engineered it.
So you guys still have the masters somewhere?Yeah. I have them.
But why not re-release it? You can make fans happy and make money?Yeah, well money ain’t everything. I like that it’s rare and legendary. I’ve seen it sell for $300 on ebay. I think that is more that it’s weight in gold; if you weigh the CD itself.
The word ‘classic’ is tossed around far too often. So lemme ask you: do you consider “Music For Earthworms” a classic?
Yes, it’s really dope. Aes was much rawer and not so abrasive. I love the guy but “Boozoka Tooth” was garbo and I told his so. He got progressively worse.
Ouch! I agree though…Aesop fell off with ‘Tooth. As a second dose of DUB-L tastiness, I’ve also linked you with “Ode to Road Rage” off MF DOOM’s insanely hit and miss VV2 album (the 2nd Vik Vaugh, you herbs). Love this one, but couldn’t find an instrumental so vocal version it is. What I like about DUB-L’s joints is the simplicity. Who needs 3000 Prefuse style edits a second or some overloaded synth masturbation? Hot loops baby, hot loops. Y’all herbs need to look out for DUB-L soon, since he’s been collaborating with sick ass DJ JS-1 for a while now and that shit is sure to be hot flames.

That beat is too nice for someone like ‘Sop to flow over.
Interesting that my man dissed him right there in the interview, that kind of honesty is rare.

Aesop fell off during Labour Days actually…as soon as he got the Def Jux re-relase connect he got real up his own ass.

I never pass up a change to diss Aesop Rock (dude seriously dissapointed me, ask biz) but I think that Dub-L pretty much says all you can say in that interview.
I wouldn’t re-release it either…. stuff like that is great to have for later, biz u know what I’m sayin.

Whatever, man. Aes didn’t fall off. None Shall Pass is one of the best he’s ever done. And he DEF hasn’t gotten progressively worse. Bazooka Tooth wasn’t great but Labor Days was legit. Dub-L sounds like a fuckin’ dick, dude. Why would he be cool with releasing an instrumental version but not re-releasing the actual CD? what the fuck ever.
