Keepin it moving, I’m serving up a pair of Classic French Hip-hop Instrumentals for y’all from a real well known source: I’Am. Sorry to be so obvious, but they’ve been holding it down from the early 90’s right up untill a few years ago; I’Am is often mentioned as being synonymous with French rap, seeing their work with the Wu (see Le Saga for more) as a sign of international success, something hard to do in a anglo-centric genre. While Wu was on the shaolin shit, I’Am had a little Egyptian thing going on, with members Akhenaton (also a producer), Shurik’n (the other MC/Producer, nod to Wu with the Ninja star reference..chik-chik-chik, and check that cover art) and of course, Imhotep (the only non-rapper).
These two cuts are pretty well known, from I’AM’s classic 1997 disc L’ Ecole du Micro D’Argent . I coppped both singles on a pair of dusty 12″s I bought five yars back from one of the famous Play De Record clearance sales @ the old Bamboo. I’d paid little attention to international rap in general, but as New York proceeded to fall the fuck off a few years back, where else could a young backpacker get his fix for the dusty boom-bap and string combo we all know and love. France, that’s where.
So off L’ Ecole du Micro D’Argent i’m lacing y’all herbs with Demain, C’est Loin (thank god not the 9 Min album version), probably their best known beat, and Chez Le Mac both produced by Shurik’n. Keep the advice on who’s hot “Au Français” and I’ll try and hook it up the beats. Représente!

Thanks for these instrumentals, I’ll use ‘em as background tracks in my radio-show.
