So, after another short absence due to the day gig, I’ve decided to get crackin on the French instrumentals. Because beyond just coming here to get free instrumentals, I know y’all want some education, so to kick things off, an artists I know well. Now, bear with me here: I’m not french. Only my man Brown Sugar’s got that cred :)
To me, French rap means Quebec rap, seeing as I’m from Canuckistan and all. But one thing that we share with our ancestors across the pond is a love of solid, string and piano based NYC style beats. When you do stumble across some french crunk, it’ never seems to work.
So, just to set things off, I introduce y’all to a man from my country who’s always on point: Sans Pression aka SP. When they first hit the scene waaay back in ‘99 with the album 514-50 Dans Mon Réseau, Sans Pression was a group. SP (Who’s now simply known as Sans Pression) and Ti-Kid, who later bounced. He’s pretty well known in Quebec with releases like Répliques aux offusqués and Treizième Étage: L’asphalte dans mon district, and also his XIII Deep compilation.
His style is very heavily influenced by US hip-hop, again, NYC. His production is a varient of the grimey WU-Tang school, with some heavy Just Blaze influence in his newer work. He Produces some of his own beats, but on this cut “Territoire Hostile” (Hostile Territory), from the debut 514-50 Dans Mon Réseau album, the boardwork is handled by little known Quebecois producer Ray-Ray, who handles at least a hlf dozen cuts if I remeber right. Also rounding his stable of beatsmiths is MTL stalwart and Brother to A-Trak, Dave-1 (He of “Cult Leader” fame) and some lesser known Quebec cats.
His last few tracks were just damn good, and he brings a dope flow (Strictly Au Francais) to the table with some real-life lyrics (if you can understand french) and some generic shit talking about how great he is. Some things always stay the same I guess…
Now, anyone out there who’s on the French production scene, hook me up! I want y’all to son me with some crazy info of who’s doin it big here, in Africa and France with the production. Holla!

France: TTC (which includes Cuizinier’s mixtapes, and producers Orgasmic, Para One, and Tacteel), Kid Rolex, La Caution
Africa… is a big place, and nobody’s mailed a new keyboard there for a while. No disrespect, nobody’s mailed me a new keyboard in while either. Bongo flava/fleva is the relevant genre’s name in Tanzania, and the term is ‘hiplife’ (highlife + hiphop) elsewhere. And I’ve downloaded some good shit from benloxodutaccu.com, soulcocina.com, chongastyle.canalblog.com, matsuli.blogspot.com, naijajams.com, awesometapesfromafrica.blogspot.com, and anything in the blogrolls of those blogs.
