Oh No - The Ride
Oh No - The Ride (Instrumental)-(Produced By Oh No) - Download
Oh No, A/K/A/ Michael Jackson (No, really…He’s also Madlibs’ Lil’ Bro, in case you didn’t know) has really popped off as a west-coast talent to watch. While other guys seem stuck between the East’s Boom Bap (Muggs anyone?) and tired west-coast synth presets, Oh No seemingly beams his beats in from outer space…only circa 1986. His debut album (as himself, he had a slew of releases for various Stones Throw/Ox City rappers since the late 90’s) “The Disrupt” managed the amazing feat of surviving the winter on my iPod and got me through some real shitty day with it’s wholly unique mix of electro stomp, dilla-esque slow jams and madlib influenced drum work-outs. His brothers influence is obvious, but Oh Knuckle’s beats are far more grounded in reality than in the ethereal world of ‘Libs endless beat tapes. Oh No can make your Fostgates bounce by flipping a double dragon sample and get your girl’s skirt up with some soulful swagga. Peep “The Ride” for my opening arguements, and cop “The Disrupt” for further proof.
