A DJ Spinna Weekend (3/3)

On the other side of Spinna’s production, and the styles he’s probably best know for, is the heav influence of Jazz and Soul. The two joints below, taken from his recent “Compositions 3″ album hightlight this. The slow, steady headnod of “Avenue” and the BKLYN bounce of “Willing” are perfect examples of his clean, consistent chops and dusty drums. From, his work back with the Jigmastas to Grand Puba, Scaramanga and beyond, Spinna has laced some classics, yet not really been placed into the elite club ovvupied by Rza, Premier and Pete Rock. I’m not gonna get into a full biography today, maybe soon, but just listen to these joints and tell me why he don’t get no love.

Dope selections from an underrated cat.
His joints have a real organic musical feel to them.
