A DJ Spinna Weekend (Part 1/3)

SPinna

A weekend with DJ Spinna

Seeing the love out there for Diamond D, I thought I’d do another little feature on a Producer who’s influential (well, to me at least), but again, one of the slept on cats from NYC’s 1990’s production explosion. DJ Spinna.

Born Vincent Williams, Spinna was one of the 90’s Indie scene stalwarts in terms of production. His pallate of sounds, while still rooted in classic soul, jazz and afro-funk as a sampling source, was and still is much broader in terms of tempos and rhythmic patters than his counterparts. Academic discussions aside, he’s really, really fuckin’ dope on the boards…

But that’s for another day….
I’ll drop the bio for now and get to the crack…

  1. All of Spinna’s early stuff is great (CMW remixes, early Jigmastas etc). Is this from that remix EP he did?

  2. Spinna is one of those cats you always root for. His style on the boards as well as his dj style is just hot. When I saw him DJ at two Steps Down years ago, he inspired me to be a dj
