Man, I miss RJD2 when he was hype, you know, before the Prog-Rock jack-off made me hit the snooze button on him after playing out all his Megahertz joints, his album (pretty much the entire summer it was out) and of course, his work with Blueprint as Soul Position. The man knows how to cut a sample, his drums are crispy as fuck and he can scratch, but I think the whole “He’s the next DJ Shadow” thing got to him a little. But he’s not what this post is really about…
Man, can both of these guys rap their asses off or what. I mean fuck. The only Diverse I really had was his shit on Urban Renewal Project and the Wylin’ out 12″, when I was on my RJ kick. I copped the One A.M. album a few days ago (off the crazy dope weirdo label Chocolate Industries outta Chicago) and it’s been on heavy rotation here at Spliff Huxtable HQ ever since. He really brings it back to a time where a dope flow and intelligent lyrics could captivate you for 5 minutes at a time without coming off cornball or “intelligent”. I’m not gonna get into it, I’ll leave that for more capable cats, but I urge you to get that if you ain’t got that.

This track is sick. I have to disagree with you on Diverse–he’s the one MC who is more wordy than Talib Kweli. He has no flow to speak of, just run-on sentences disguised as bars. I’ve seen him live with Jean Grae and he killed it but listening to him on record is hard work. Good post still.
