Saukrates - The Underground Tapes

Saukrates is one of Toronto’s “Old Guard” of hip-hop, reppin’ the Circle (Kardinal Offishall, Choclair, Solitare, Ro Dolla and Big Sox himself), one of T-Dot’s most sucessful (commercially) rap family’s. Saukrates came up through the east-end scene in the late 90’s, producing mostly, rapping and making a good name in the underground with 12’s before dropping his first album. A collection of singles and entirely produced by the man himself, this disc is a great slice of late 90’s T-DOt music, heavy on two influences that still can be felt today: Reggae and NYC Hip-hop…Sox’s rhyme flow and riddims borrow heavily from the obvious island influence, but the drums daddy! Pure NYC, almost on a Q-Tip/Large Professor tip…and the guests (Common, Xzibit, Pharohe Monch) ain’t bad either. Not everything is gold, but it’s gold enough to deserve a place on your player.
My gift to you…more to come crackers!
