Expansion is the team: Joey Chavez
Down with the repected west-coast ABB camp (You may have heard of a few cats like Defari, Dialated Peoples or Little brother???) since the early days and also the terrible Vancouver crew of Battleaxe (you may have made fun of such cats as Moka Only, Swolen Members or Sweatshop Union???), Joey Chavez holds down a classic sound by keepin’ it simple and soulful. I think these tracks best represent what I feel is his “style”: Dusty drumwork with that late night weeded soul vibe that brings back those ‘97 memories.
These Dialted Peoples beats come from his instrumental CD “Music from the Connection”, which is heavy dope.
The last thing that popped up in a major release with his name on it (and not on Battleaxe) was “Going Crazy” by Jean Grae, but I have a feelin’ dude is up to something…
I just hope it’s not on Battleaxe….
